Electroboutique pop up at Science Museum London. 23.11.2011 - 14.02.2012
Art collective Electroboutique (Russian artists Alexei Shulgin and Aristarkh Chernyshev) create interactive artworks which subtly communicate sharp, deeply embedded critical attitudes.
Encouraging participation through "Creative Consumption", the artists generate a dialogue with their audiences through works which respond, reflect and re-version viewers in real time. The artwork uses the language of pop media culture, live data, sophisticated custom electronics and bespoke software, framed by a tongue-in-cheek appropriation of the language of corporate marketing speak.
Electroboutique pop-up at the Science Museum showcases a series of works created over the past seven years, including two new works commissioned specifically for this exhibition.
Through this series of easy-to-get works which draw on the "bubblegum for the eyes and ears" aesthetics of mass media, participants find themselves drawn into more serious questions around art production, design aspiration, technological progress, consumerism, capitalism, media control, and the language of corporate social responsibility.
Electroboutique Pop up is a development of Electroboutique Art that Cares which was originally commissioned by Espen Gangvik, Director, TEKS - Trondheim Electronic Arts Centre, for the Trondheim Matchmaking 2009 festival.
